Chain Hoist

Some lifting tasks demand precision, portability, and absolute reliability — not a fixed crane installation, not a permanent hoist structure, but a compact, deployable lifting solution that goes where the load is. That is the job of a Chain Hoist, and Venus Engineers builds them to last. As a leading Electric Chain Hoist Manufacturer in Delhi, Gurgaon, NCR, and across India, we design and supply Electric Chain Hoists and Manual Chain Hoists (Chain Pulley Blocks) engineered for industrial lifting, maintenance operations, assembly lines, and construction applications where reliable vertical lifting is required at any location — not just below a fixed runway beam. With over 25 years of mechanical engineering experience, Venus Engineers delivers Chain Hoists that are robust, compact, and rated for continuous industrial use — manufactured at our Neemrana production facility and tested before dispatch.

What is a Chain Hoist?

A Chain Hoist is a mechanical lifting device that uses a hardened steel load chain, a reduction gear system, and a braking mechanism to raise, lower, and hold heavy loads vertically. The load chain passes over a machined load sheave — also called a chain wheel or pocket wheel — driven by the gear train. As the sheave rotates under motor or hand power, the load chain is pulled through the hoist body, lifting the suspended load smoothly and under controlled force.

Unlike wire rope hoists — which use a drum and spooled rope — a Chain Hoist handles the load chain in a free-hanging load chain container or bag, making the hoist body far more compact for a given lifting capacity. This compactness, combined with the ability to mount the Chain Hoist from a simple beam clamp, trolley, or hook, makes it one of the most versatile and widely used lifting devices in industrial, maintenance, and construction environments.

As experienced Electric Chain Hoist Manufacturers, Venus Engineers produces hoists in two primary configurations — Electric Chain Hoists and Manual Chain Hoists (Chain Pulley Blocks) — across a wide range of lifting capacities, lift heights, and suspension arrangements to suit the exact requirements of the customer's application and facility.

Types of Chain Hoists We Manufacture

Electric Chain Hoist

The Electric Chain Hoist is a motorised lifting unit driven by a crane-duty electric motor through a precision helical gearbox, with an electro-mechanical disc brake that engages automatically whenever the motor is de-energised — holding the load securely at any position in the lift stroke without operator intervention. The load chain is guided through the hoist body over a hardened and tempered load sheave, with the slack chain deposited into a galvanised or nylon load chain container attached to the hoist body.

Electric Chain Hoists from Venus Engineers are available in standard headroom and low-headroom configurations, with lifting capacities from 0.5 tonne to 20 tonnes and standard lift heights from 3 metres to 30 metres — with custom lift heights available for tall structures, shafts, and multi-storey installations. All Electric Chain Hoists include a push-button pendant control for safe single-operator use and are designed for industrial-duty S3 and S4 intermittent and continuous operation.

Best for: Assembly and fabrication lines, maintenance workshops, machinery erection, warehouse material handling, steel plant lifting, construction site material hoisting, process plant maintenance, crane hook block replacement where low headroom is critical

Manual Chain Hoist (Chain Pulley Block)

The Manual Chain Hoist — also known as a Chain Pulley Block — is a hand-operated lifting device in which the operator pulls a hand chain to rotate the load sheave through a worm gear or spur gear reduction, lifting the load with significant mechanical advantage. No electrical supply is required, making the manual Chain Hoist indispensable for remote construction sites, outdoor maintenance locations, confined spaces, and applications where a motor-driven unit is impractical or unnecessary.

Venus Engineers manufactures manual Chain Hoists with heat-treated alloy steel hooks (top and bottom), hardened load sheaves, enclosed and lubricated gear mechanisms, and positive-holding pawl and ratchet brake assemblies that lock the load at any point in the lift stroke without requiring continuous operator effort. The compact and lightweight body allows a single technician to carry and install the Chain Hoist wherever it is needed — from a structural beam, scaffold frame, or lifting gantry — in minutes.

Best for: Maintenance and repair operations, remote and off-grid sites, confined space lifting, emergency recovery, low-frequency lifting tasks, scaffold and shuttering erection, machinery skidding and alignment, agricultural and rural applications

Key Components & Engineering Highlights

Component Description
Alloy Steel Load Chain The load chain is the heart of any Chain Hoist — it carries the full suspended load through every lift cycle across the service life of the equipment. Venus Engineers specifies and supplies Grade 80 calibrated alloy steel load chain — heat-treated for high tensile strength and impact resistance — in the correct pitch and diameter for each hoist capacity. All load chains are hot-dip galvanised for corrosion resistance in outdoor, humid, or chemically exposed environments. Chain calibration ensures consistent pitch engagement with the load sheave pocket wheel, preventing chain jump and uneven wear.
Precision-Machined Load Sheave The load sheave — the pocket wheel over which the load chain passes — is forged and machined from alloy steel and hardened to resist the repeated impact and abrasion from chain engagement under load. Precise pocket geometry ensures that the chain seats fully in each pocket at every rotation, distributing the load evenly across the chain link and preventing stress concentration that leads to fatigue failure. Venus Engineers manufactures load sheaves to close tolerances matched to the specified chain pitch.
Electro-Mechanical Disc Brake (Electric Models) The brake is the safety-critical component of any Electric Chain Hoist. Venus Engineers fits electro-mechanical disc brakes on all Electric Chain Hoist models — spring-applied, power-released designs that engage automatically whenever the motor is de-energised, whether by operator command, power failure, or emergency stop. The brake holds the full rated suspended load at any lift height without drift. Brake discs are selected for the duty cycle and load to ensure adequate thermal capacity across the specified number of starts per hour.
Low-Headroom Configuration In many industrial installations — under bridge crane girders, inside machinery pits, in low-ceiling maintenance bays — the available headroom between the suspension point and the working floor is limited. As dedicated Electric Chain Hoist Manufacturers, Venus Engineers produces low-headroom configurations where the motor is mounted beside the hoist body rather than above it, significantly reducing the minimum distance between the top hook and the bottom hook at the highest lift position. This maximises usable lift in headroom-constrained installations.
Overload Protection — Mechanical Load Limiter Mechanical Load Limiter All Electric Chain Hoists from Venus Engineers include a mechanical load limiter — a calibrated slip clutch in the drive train that disengages the drive when the suspended load exceeds 110–125% of the rated capacity. This protects the chain, hook fittings, trolley, and suspension structure from the consequences of accidental overloading. Load limiters are factory-set and tested before dispatch.

Key Features & Operational Advantages
